Tariffs:
On April 9th around midday, President Trump announced he would be temporarily pausing his reciprocal tariffs for 90 days on most countries. Those countries (except for China) will still see that 10% baseline reciprocal tariff, but not the additional increases that were originally imposed.
Additionally, late last Friday President Trump said some goods would be exempt from the reciprocal tariffs, mainly electronics, per the White House. There’s a variety of them so make sure you talk to your provider (or reach out to us) to see if your products qualify.
It’s worth noting that the 25% tariffs on automobiles, auto parts (went into effect April 2nd), as well as steel/aluminum tariffs (went into effect March 12th), are still in place. There are some exemptions, of which include those imported under the USMCA that are deemed compliant.
As we mentioned above, we understand that there’s a lot happening right now with tariffs. If you’d like to have a conversation about it, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Diesel update:
The average price of diesel decreased by 6 cents a gallon. Putting the average price of diesel at $3.579, per the US EIA.
The Midwest region (down 6.9 cents), USWC (down 3.7 cents), USGC (down 7.1 cents), and the USEC (down 5.3 cents), all saw decreases from last week.

The purpose of shippers having cargo insurance is to mitigate the financial risks inherent in domestic or cross-border shipments. Often times, things work out, but when they don’t, that’s where the value of cargo insurance shines.
Shippers should not be alone when deciding on cargo insurance coverage and, more importantly, in the event of a claims process. Commerce Express Inc.’s commitment goes beyond mere insurance provision; we actively engage in the claims process on behalf of our clients.

Cargo Theft: New Legislation Introduced to Address Cargo Theft Incidents
A group of U.S. lawmakers have proposed a new bill that would help thwart and address cargo theft incidents, a trend that has grown more common and complex in recent years.
The Combating Organized Retail Crime Act would create an Organized Retail and Supply Chain Crime Coordination Center within the Department of Homeland Security. Within that, they would work with state and local law enforcement agencies and retail industry stakeholders, as indicated in the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary website.
The Commerce Express team works closely with our shipper-customers and transportation partners to ensure complete visibility for all parties. Providing peace of mind and security for your cargo.
