Brake Safety Day 2024 Results

In a single day, inspectors across 47 jurisdictions in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. performed 4,898 inspections of commercial motor vehicles as part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) brake safety enforcement initiative.

Every year, law enforcement agencies associated with CVSA are invited to take part in this unannounced, one-day brake safety inspection and compliance enforcement event. On that day, CVSA-certified commercial motor vehicle inspectors conduct their routine roadside inspections with a focus on brake systems and components and provide brake-related inspection and violation data to CVSA.

Data from the CVSA regarding this year’s Brake Safety Day revealed that out of the 4,898 inspections conducted, 4,328 commercial motor vehicles (88.4%) were found to have no brake-related out-of-service violations. However, inspectors identified 570 vehicles (11.6%) that were operating with critical brake-related violations, leading to an immediate travel restriction until those issues were resolved.
